Platter has minimal movement and the motor is strong. Tonearm has the slightest bit of play but doesn't seem to affect performance. I swapped the AT cartridge with an Ortofon VNL and it tracks great (NO additional phono preamp needed.) Buttons/switches are responsive and clicky. The faders are really light and smooth. A bit too light for my liking and there doesn't seem to be any tension adjustment so it might take some time getting used to. The ability to adjust fader lag is simple and is accurate.
I've already ordered a Bihari QRM tonearm to swap the stock tonearm with so I can use headshell mounted and Ortofon concorde style carts with them. 2x bearings and a shaft collar that fit the shaft of the Bihari should be all you need to swap tonearms. Aside from that I don't think any additional modding is necessary.
